Hope for mass rollout of ECD infrastructure improvements

Mark Uncategorised

There are approximately 2.5million children in underserviced communities who lack access to adequate ECD care and education. The Infrastructure Survey, Registration and Infrastructure Support Programme plays an important role in responding to this challenge in a structured and scale-able fashion. The systematic survey of all ECD centres provides important information which was not previously available (516 centres in six municipalities surveyed to date). Infrastructure is a key barrier to improvement and registration. Work undertaken has shown that the only way to reach all children is to improve existing centres rather than building new ones (113 infrastructure plans have been developed). Most centres have the potential to improve if provided with infrastructure and other assistance. Click here for short ECD update video. Click here for ECD briefing document.
